Lagoda Team Showdown is a team disc golf tournament that will, for the second time, be played on August 30 and 31, 2025 in Varaždin, at the same time as the street festival Špancirfest, so tournament participants will have the opportunity to enjoy themselves with numerous locals and other visitors during their free time.
This group disc golf concept was played as a side event within the Drava Forester tournament since 2017 and has always attracted great interest from participants. The competition was held as a standalone team PDGA tournament in 2024, with 6 teams made up of players from Croatia, Serbia, and Slovenia.
At the first edition of the Lagoda Team Showdown, victory went to Birdogey Bros consisting of Antonio Grigić, Adrian Liber, Andrej Kozic, and Dino Harambašić. Second place went to Black Cats consisting of Aleksandar Bato Sudžuković, Danica Pajtak, Nino Đurak, and Vanja Brozović, and third place went to TITA (Anđelko Zrinski, Ira Molnar Gorički, Tomislav Kačavenda, and Tomislav Gorički).
Other participating teams were Four Body Problem, Immanuel Kant Putt, and lapfix.hr. You can read the report from that tournament on a separate page.
Competition rules – team formation
A team consists of four players, and the condition is that the average PDGA rating of all team members must not be higher than 888, meaning the total sum of their PDGA ratings can be a maximum of 3,552.
The valid PDGA rating of team members on the day of registration will be used.
If, after registration, the team members' ratings increase in the rating update on May 13 or earlier, the registration is no longer valid and the team must re-register with changed members and a total rating of up to 3,552.
If the team members' ratings increase in the rating updates in June, July, or August, the team will still be able to participate in the tournament.
If a player does not have a current PDGA rating (e.g. has not paid PDGA membership for the current year or has never been a member), the following criteria apply:
- If a player without a rating played tournaments in 2024 or 2025, and the rating of their last 9 rounds is higher than 888, that value is taken as their rating.
- If a player without a rating played tournaments in 2024 or 2025, and the rating of their last 9 rounds is lower than 888, then 888 is taken as their rating.
- If a player did not play PDGA tournaments in 2024 or 2025, then their rating is considered to be 888.
In specific cases (e.g. a very skilled player without PDGA membership and rating), these rules may be supplemented.
Competition rules – game format
The Lagoda Team Game concept sets a tactical challenge for teams as they need to make a plan, decide which team member will best execute the tee shot on which holes, or how to organize play on each hole after the tee shot, depending on the lie from which play continues.
The game is played similarly to the regular doubles format (only with 4 instead of 2 players) under the following main conditions:
The team consists of 4 members
1. | One team member makes each individual throw
2. | Each player must throw the tee shot on 4 holes (out of 16 holes)
3. | During the game, the team decides which player will throw the tee shot on each hole. The same player may throw the tee shot on four consecutive holes.
4. | After the tee shot, play continues with the other team members, with each making one throw. After that, any member can make their second throw. If the game continues, the remaining members make their second throw. If everyone makes two throws and the disc is not in the basket, the third round of throws begins, and so on. The hole is completed when the disc lands in the basket. |
Scores will be recorded online (PDGA live), but each team will also receive a paper scorecard to track which members made the throws and ensure the game is played according to the rules.
If one team member withdraws from the competition (e.g. injury), and the team has completed the round, the team may register another member for upcoming rounds, respecting the rating limits.
Registration
The entry fee for the tournament is €80 per team and is paid to the Lagoda j.d.o.o. account before the competition, covering tournament organization, Croatian Flying Disc Federation fees, and prizes for the top three teams.
Teams register under a team name chosen by members, and in the note area, they must list all team members and their PDGA numbers.
The number of teams is limited to 36.
The list of registered teams will be updated on the PDGA tournament page.
Scores will be kept via the PDGA live platform.
The entry fee must be paid to the bank account before the tournament:
Lagoda j.d.o.o., Varaždin, HR6323400091110550349
If the entry fee is not paid in advance, payment will be possible in cash at the tournament with an additional €10 charge, meaning the cash payment on-site will be €90.
Course
The competition will take place on a 16-hole layout set up on the Drava Forester course area, in the forest and on the embankment next to the Arena Varaždin sports hall.
The holes will mostly be longer par 4s, with one or two par 3s and one or two par 5s.
All holes will use Disc Golf Park targets.
Tees will be covered with artificial turf carpets.
A PDF course map will be available on this page by early August.
Prize fund
Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams, with the winning team choosing one of three prize packages first. The second-place team chooses next, and the remaining package goes to the third-place team.
In 2024, prizes worth €2,000 were awarded, including a weekend for 4 people at the Crvena Luka resort in Biograd na Moru (value €1,000+), 4 Latitude 64 DG Luxury E4 disc golf backpacks (total value €800), and Latitude 64 Core disc golf backpacks (total value €320).
Information on prizes for 2025 will be available soon, but one of the top three prizes will definitely be 4 Latitude 64 DG Luxury E4 disc golf backpacks (total value €800).
