World players association PDGA

All disc golf players can independently join the global disc golf association PDGA (Professional Disc Golf Association), thereby obtaining their unique disc golf rating and tracking their game development through rating changes.

The first global players' association was founded in 1976 as the Disc Golf Association and was later renamed the Professional Disc Golf Association, becoming player-governed in 1982.
Although it initially focused on professional players, while a separate organization existed for recreational players, the PDGA has become the only worldwide association uniting all players — both amateur and professional.

Membership growth: Players joining in October 2025 receive a membership number around 316,000. In November 2019, new members were around 128,000, in April 2015 around 74,000, in 2012 around 52,000, and in 2009 around 36,000.

It took the PDGA over 30 years to reach its first 36,000 members, while membership has since almost quadrupled in just 15 years. From 2009 to 2025, membership has increased by more than 780%, showing strong and accelerated growth of disc golf worldwide.

Each person who joins the PDGA receives a unique membership number, which is also their chronological entry number since the association’s founding.
The first Croatian PDGA member was Zvonko Slavić from Pula, who joined in 1987 and holds member number 3730. He had already competed at the WFDF World Championships in Sweden in 1985.

Members in Croatia

As of October 5, 2025, there are 93 Croatian players who have received a PDGA number, of which 61 have an active membership for the current year.
Out of these 61 active members, 10 are women and 51 are men, meaning women represent 16% and men 84% of all active Croatian disc golfers.
Four members are juniors under 18 years old, while the rest are adults, with the oldest members being over 65 years of age.

The growth of Croatian PDGA players can be seen from the fact that by November 2019 there were 40 registered members, of which 33 were active that year.

The current list of Croatian PDGA members can always be viewed on the PDGA membership page.

Player Ratings

Each PDGA member receives an official rating when competing in PDGA-sanctioned tournaments.
A top world-class male rating is above 1,000, an experienced player’s rating is above 900, and beginners or casual players typically have a rating between 650–750.
For women, top ratings are above 950, experienced players are above 850, and beginners range from 600–700.

The rating for each round is calculated based on results from all players in that round and their current ratings. What makes the system great is that even players not competing for top spots have motivation — to play better than their current rating and improve it, regardless of their tournament position.

Membership Information

Membership is valid for one calendar year and can be paid directly through the PDGA website. Players who cannot pay individually can contact the national PDGA Coordinator, Aleksandar Aki Vucković, who each year organizes group registrations and renewals for Croatian players.

Membership type (PDGA Europe)Fee
Junior membership (under 18) 10 €
Amateur membership 20 €
Professional membership 40 €

Memberships purchased after October 1st are valid through the entire following calendar year (for example, a membership paid on October 5th, 2025 is valid until December 31st, 2026).

The difference between Amateur and Professional membership mainly relates to the ability to receive cash prizes. Professional membership is required only for players competing in professional divisions and accepting monetary payouts. Since most tournaments in Croatia and the region award trophies, discs, or gift packages instead of money, the Amateur membership at 20 € is perfectly sufficient for most players. Nearly all Croatian disc golfers are classified as amateurs, reflecting the friendly and recreational nature of events held locally.

Frequently Asked Questions

.

How is a player rating calculated?
A player’s rating is based on the ratings of all rounds they have played in the past 12 months.

For each round played at a PDGA event, your score is compared with those of other players in the same round, and your round rating is calculated accordingly.

Your player rating is the average of your rated rounds from PDGA-sanctioned events, with the lowest rounds automatically dropped once you have enough rounds played.

All rounds from the past 12 months are included in the calculation. Older rounds remain only if the player hasn’t played at least eight new rounds during that period. Once a player has over 100 rated rounds, the lowest 10% are automatically excluded from the average.

A detailed explanation is available on the PDGA Ratings page.
When are ratings updated?
Ratings are officially updated every month, on the second Tuesday. To be included in the next update, the tournament director must submit official results at least 48 hours earlier. The new ratings list is published on the PDGA Player Ratings page.
What if I play a tournament but I'm not a PDGA member?
Your results will still be recorded but won’t be added to your official PDGA rating. If you later become a PDGA member, you can request that your previously played PDGA-sanctioned events be added to your profile.
To do this, contact the PDGA Event Support team and include your PDGA number and links to your past tournament results. After verification, PDGA can manually link those results to your profile.
How long does it take to activate membership?
Membership and the player number are activated immediately after payment is processed. Your member number is assigned automatically as the next available number since 1976. An official confirmation email is sent within a few minutes to one day, depending on payment method.
How long is membership valid?
Membership is valid for one calendar year. If paid after October 1st, it automatically extends through the entire following year (for example, a membership paid on October 5th, 2025 is valid until December 31st, 2026).
What happens if I forget to renew my membership?
If your membership expires, your PDGA number and all past results remain permanently recorded, but your rating is “frozen” until you renew. You can renew your membership at any time without extra fees or re-registration.
Why become a PDGA member?
Membership gives you an official player rating, the ability to compete in PDGA-sanctioned tournaments, voting rights within the global association, and access to discounts such as a 50% lower subscription cost on the Disc Golf Network. Additionally, your membership supports the sport’s growth through tournaments, grant programs, and disc golf promotion across Europe.
What is Disc Golf Network?
Disc Golf Network (DGN) is the official streaming platform of the PDGA and Disc Golf Pro Tour — essentially a “Netflix for disc golfers.”
The platform broadcasts live coverage of the biggest tournaments such as PDGA Majors and DGPT Elite Series. Subscribers can watch full rounds, replays (VOD), interviews, and exclusive shows about top players.

PDGA members receive a 50% discount on Standard or Pro subscriptions, and all PDGA members have free DGN Basic access, which includes live coverage of the first round of every event and selected additional content throughout the season.
DGN is available via website, mobile app, and smart TVs. More information about subscriptions and member benefits is available on the DGPT website.
