The disc golf league along Vodovodna Street in Varaždin has been held regularly since spring 2022 with the aim of promoting and popularizing this sport. The competition is organized by the Varaždin-based Disc Golf Club Lagoda, and the league is led by Dinko Šimenc, with coordinator Tina Šimenc.
Each league season consists of a series of eight weekly rounds, usually held on Wednesday afternoons, with four seasons planned throughout the year.
In case of rain or bad weather forecasts, a round is rescheduled to another day, usually Tuesday or Thursday. Each round consists of two 9-hole rounds and lasts approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes on average.
For regular communication with participants and to register attendance for each round, a private WhatsApp group is open, where all league participants are invited.
Everyone can participate – children, seniors, and complete beginners. The league is also open to tourists who are welcome even if they want to participate in just one round.
Currently
The 2025-B season starts on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 16:45.
Results from all rounds are published on the Disc Golf Metrix platform.
League Rules for 2025
- Four league seasons (A, B, C, and D) are played each year, each lasting 8 rounds. The first season usually starts with the switch to daylight saving time (i.e., when the day is long enough to start at 17:00 and finish before dark).
- Each league season runs through 8 rounds, usually once a week on Wednesday afternoons, and after the switch to standard time (October 26, 2025), rounds will be played on weekends until the 8 planned rounds of season D are completed. If needed to finish by the end of the year, more than one round per week can be played.
- The game in all leagues is played in a shared time slot announced weekly, EXCEPT for the 3rd league, where participants can play independently at another time, allowing participation for those who work or have unavoidable obligations during the regular time slot.
- Competitions are held in the 1st Women’s League, 1st Junior League, 1st Mixed League, 2nd Mixed League, and 3rd Mixed League.
- The 1st and 2nd Mixed Leagues host up to 10 players each, while all others play in the 3rd league. There is no participant limit for the 1st Women’s and 1st Junior Leagues in 2025.
- The 1st and 2nd Mixed Leagues require an advance season fee of €10 per player. Children, students, and those without regular income are exempt from paying the fee. In the 1st Women’s League, only experienced players (those with PDGA membership and ratings over 700) pay the fee; all other players are exempt.
- The fee covers small trophies and prizes at the end of the season, and if needed, mowing or equipment (if enough funds are collected, it’s possible to upgrade the course – new tees, baskets, etc.).
- A player entitled to a spot in the 1st or 2nd league based on last season’s results must confirm it by paying the €10 fee before the start of the 1st round. If the player does not wish to participate in the 1st or 2nd league, they can compete for free in the 3rd league. The same applies to women in the 1st Women’s League who are required to pay the fee – if they want to play recreationally, they can join the 3rd Mixed League.
- A player who qualified for a higher league can decline the promotion but will then continue competing in the 3rd Mixed League.
- In each round, the league winner earns 10 points, second place 8 points, third place 7 points, fourth place 6... and the last place 0.
- In case of lateness, the following rules apply: if a player misses the start of the 1st round by no more than 2 holes, they can play them immediately after the 1st round ends. If they miss more than 2 holes, a score of 6 is recorded for each missed hole.
- The first round of each event is played in mixed groups from all leagues, and the second round in groups without separating by league (or with minimal mixing necessary to form groups).
- The season lasts 8 rounds, and after the 7th round, each player’s two worst results are dropped.
- At the end of the season, a winner is announced for each league.
- At the end of the season, the bottom two players from the 1st Mixed League are relegated to the 2nd League, and the top two from the 2nd Mixed League are promoted to the 1st Mixed League. Similarly, the top two from the 3rd Mixed League move to the 2nd Mixed League, and the bottom two from the 2nd League drop to the 3rd Mixed League.
- To be eligible for promotion to a higher league, a player must participate in at least 4 rounds.
- If two players have tied results for relegation or promotion, the following criteria apply:
- who has more wins when both participated in the same rounds
- who has more round wins
- who has the best top result
- who has the better 2nd best result
- who has the better 3rd best result (etc.)
