Second edition of the Masterpiece was held

Masterpiece is a tournament that held its second edition on May 17 and 18, 2025 in Labin as the third event of the Croatian Disc Golf League in the 2025 season.

The tournament was organized by Lagoda Disc Golf with local partners from the Atlas Rabac travel agency and with the support of the Labin - Rabac Tourist Board and the Dubrova Sculpture Park. The competition gathered 39 players from Croatia, Austria, Slovenia, and Serbia.

The trophy and graphic elements of the tournament were inspired by the sculpture "Between Heaven and Earth" located next to the basket of hole 1, created by graduated sculptor Slavomir Drinkovic during the Mediterranean Sculpture Symposium in 1993.

The players’ meeting was held on Friday at 8:30 PM in the conference hall of Valamar Sanfior Hotel & Casa in Rabac, which was the official accommodation of the event and hosted about twenty competitors.

The competition took place in pleasant sunny weather with temperatures around 20 degrees, occasionally disturbed by a light wind. About 15 minutes into the first round, a rain cloud passed over the course, bringing even some hail.

The tournament started with the first round on Saturday at 9:40 AM, which lasted about 2.5 hours, followed by a joint lunch for all competitors. Lunch was organized at the nearby Pineta pizzeria, and fortunately for the players, heavy rain fell exactly during lunch, stopping before the second round. The second round started at 2:45 PM and lasted between 2 and 2.5 hours, depending on the group.

The event concluded with the third and final round played on Sunday from 10:00 AM, with the awards ceremony held on the course starting at 12:30 PM.

The competition was played in two “elite” divisions – MPO and FPO, in three lower divisions for players of both genders grouped by their ratings, as well as in junior and children’s divisions FJ10 and MJ12.

In the FJ10 children’s division, one player, Kaja Gorički, participated, and due to her age and the demanding course, she played only the 1st round.
In the MJ12 children’s division, one player, Adrian Dimovski, participated, and due to his age and the demanding course, he played only the 1st and 3rd rounds.

In the lowest Purple division (for players rated up to 800), the win among 5 players went to Ivo Tišljar with a score of +18 over par.
In the middle Green division (up to 850 rating), the win among 3 players went to Miloš Gavrilović (DGK Lagoda, Varaždin) with +1 over par.
In the highest Red division (up to 900 rating), the win among 6 players went to Tomislav Frković (FDK Zagreb) with -6 over par.

In the FPO division, 7 players competed, and the title went to Ira Molnar Goricki (FDK Zagreb) with +11 over par. Second place went to Maja Šimenc (DGK Lagoda) with +12, and third place went to Tina Šimenc (DGK Lagoda) with +13.

In the MPO division, 16 players competed, and the title went to Austrian Stanislaus Amann who played the course at -26. Second place went to Tomislav Goricki (FDK Zagreb) with -21, and third went to Aleksandar Bato Sudžukovic (DGK Varaždin) with -15.

The best men’s round at the tournament was 47 (-10, PDGA rating 1,009) played by Amann in round 2. The best women’s round was 60 (+3, rating 847 or 858), played by both Maja Šimenc and Ira Molnar Gorički in rounds 1 and 3.
Full results can be found on the PDGA page.

Side events at the tournament included the Putting Contest, Ace Pool, and Overachiever.

Putting Contest took place on the beach area of the official hotel on Saturday evening, with 17 participants.
All participants putted two discs from 6 positions, and the best six advanced to the finals. The finalists were Maja Šimenc, Lisa Ulbing, Vjeran Tuhtan, Mladen Šop, Stanislaus Amann, Josip Bosnjakovic, and Val Martic. In the first knockout, Bošnjaković and Martić were eliminated, followed by Amann, Šop, and Šimenc in the second. In the grand final, Tihtan defeated Lisa Ulbing to claim the win and a special Kristin Tattar 1,000-rated golden Grace.

Ace Pool – 29 players paid €1 each, and with €100 carried over from previous events, the total prize was €129.
As no ace was hit, the pot carries over to the next Lagoda event – Spa Hills.

Overachiever Award goes to the player who performed the most above their PDGA rating (based on current ratings and with at least 20 rounds in their record).
Third place went to Zoran Krečar at +28 above his rating, second to Ivo Tišljar at +58, and the winner was Miloš Gavrilović at +61 above his rating.

The tournament concluded with a raffle where drawn players could choose from prizes worth over €150. Winners were Stanislaus Amann, Zoran Krečar, and Tomislav Ćavar.
